Byron Echo Interview 14th February, 2006 |
![]() ![]() It's easy to see why Felicity Burdett is smiling In the short span of eight months, her band The Love Bus have released an award winning album, played the 2006 East Coast Blues & Roots Festival and are now gearing up for a slot at this year’s Splendour In The Grass. The five-piece outfit is essentially a vehicle for Burdett’s music: a mix of funky, melodic grooves that celebrate life, love and the elements. “I’m like the ocean and earth girl,” Burdett laughs. “Bare feet, smelling the fresh air and running with the wind against my skin. My lyrics talk of nature, ocean, surfing, love, sadness, mine and other people’s battles and triumphs in life, dreams, good fortune, politics, moments I experience.” The Love Bus have been gigging constantly since their inception and built a firm fan-base through their positively charged live sets. But what exactly can we expect on stage this weekend? “Well, I will come running onto the stage, my hair will be flamingo pink,” Burdett says. “I will be stark naked except for my acoustic guitar hanging round my shoulders. There will be a huge smile on my face that will not go away. I will dance and shake my booty and fill the air with so much love and happy tunes that people will hopefully feel empowered by my enthusiasm and gusto,” she laughs. Obviously very spiritual, Burdett has many a story to tell and a motto or two - like “Winning starts with beginning ” - to throw around, but could it be that she was sent for a higher purpose? “Sometimes I wonder if I was plucked just straight out of the ’60s folk era by an alien life force and put here as an experiment to see if I can change Triple J’s attitude to the necessities of too much alternative rock.” The Love Bus play The GW McLennan Theatre, Splendour In The Grass, Belongil Fields Sunday Jul 23. Going With The Flow out now through MGM. |
